Group Fitness Program

The Statesville Fitness and Activity Center offers a variety of group exercise classes per week to help you reach your fitness and wellness goals. Experienced and certified instructors along with a supportive group environment encourage and motivate each class participant. Our class offerings include: Zumba, Hip Hop, Yoga, Silver Sneakers, Cycling, P90X Live, and more! Group exercise classes are included in annual and monthly memberships. Single class passes can be purchased for $5 at the front desk. Please see our group fitness schedule for class times.

Fitness on Demand

We are excited to add "Fitness on Demand" as one of our wonderful amenities here at the Statesville Fitness & Activity Center. Come check out our new kiosk that has over 200 classes to chose from! FOD allows members to take modern day fitness classes during open times in the Group Fitness Room. Group Fitness Instructor Bios!

Jan Ambrose
Teaching is my passion! After teaching English and journalism for over thirty years at Statesville High School, I retired from the classroom. I shifted my focus instead to teaching fitness  classes. Certified to teach yoga, stability ball, and Pilates, I have in the past several years zeroed in on fitness classes geared to our ever-increasing senior population. I currently teach chair yoga, Silver Sneakers Classic, and Fit  Forever.

Dina Chamberlain
Dina has been NETA certified in Group Fitness since 2012. She later received her certification in 3 Silver Sneakers Formats; Classic, Circuit, and Yoga. Just recently, she discovered Barre and was certified as an Instructor. She currently has her own Ultimate Burn and Fit Forever classes each week. In addition to those, she often serves as a substitute for additional Fit Forever, Silver Sneakers, and Riverwalk classes.  Dina has a lot of enthusiasm for Health and Wellness and she enjoys helping others find success through Fitness.

Nayda de la Torre
Nayda de la Torre began her dance fitness teaching career in 2009 with Zumba. She is certified in all Zumba specialties  including, Zumba, Zumba Toning, Zumba Gold, Zumba Step  Zumba Aqua, Zumba Sentao, and Strong by Zumba. She loves teaching because she knows how therapeutic movement is for the soul.  She believes if she can help you forget all of your troubles for one hour, her job has been done. She says, “When you’re having so much fun, you tend to forget you’re even working out!”

She lives in Statesville with her husband, Santos and their dog, Chico. She loves to travel, and she can pack a bag in 10 minutes flat for any traveling occasion. She also enjoys her multiple weekly workouts with her son, Kirk at Orangetheory Fitness. Her daughter, Adyana is also a fitness and health coach in Fort Mill. 

Nayda’s desire is to share and inspire that same passion and drive that keeps her going so that others too may experience optimal health and higher quality of life. 

Jan Kay
Jan started her yoga journey after college but never had a consistent practice. Her real journey began after having children and dealing with back pain. It was there that she was introduced to the calm and physical comfort yoga could bring to her busy life, as well as strengthen and challenge her physically. As she began to feel the transformation yoga had in her life she felt inspired to share the gift of yoga with others. She believes yoga is truly capable of transforming the mind, body and spirit. Jan is thrilled to be able to have the training and certifications to share how this practice can change your life.

Jan has Master’s Degree in Psychology, is a Licensed Therapist with a private practice and is truly passionate about spreading more light and love in this world. Jan enjoys sharing mindfulness and meditation techniques during her gentle yoga classes. Jan’s teaching style emphasizes the importance of body alignment combined with the natural movement of the breath, inner awareness and the vision of the mind-body-spirit connection.

Shannon Mallory
I became interested in teaching fitness classes years ago when attending a step class. I loved group fitness and the social aspect of working out with others. I have taught a variety of classes over the last 8 years including Body Pump, TurboKick, Silver Sneakeres, PiYo, P90x and Cardio Hip-Hop. I currently teach PiYo and enjoy subbing for other classes such as Fit Forever! I truly love working with all age groups and enjoy inspiring others to lead a healthier lifestyle. I believe it's truly important to have fun and enjoy the exercise you are doing because that is the activity you will stick with!

Shadese McClellan
My name is Shadese Griffith-McClellan I'm a licensed MixxedFit instructor. Mixxedfit is a people inspired fitness program with explosive movements and body weight toning. I've been teaching since October 2018 and licensed since June 2018. Mixxedfit is a fun way to exercise and meet new people. Since a little girl I've enjoyed dancing and attended dance school. I was always active in the community and always found ways to help others and improve their quality of life. Health and fitness is important to me due to me wanting to live, look great and feel awesome. I am a Wife, mother of 4, Medical Social Worker and  a  MixxedFit instructor. 

Tiya Maynard
Tiya Myoga guide + healer + peace-maker + lover + ease-facilitator + creator.

Tiya Caniel is currently based in the Statesville, NC area where she leads weekly group and private yoga sessions centered around mindful and love-driven asana practice. Her yoga practice began in 2012 and developed quickly into her passion. She completed her 200-hour RYT certification from Asheville Yoga Center in 2016 and began teaching soon after. In addition to guiding weekly yoga offerings, Tiya also leads workshops and  retreats in the US and abroad.

Tiya’s intentions are to help others facilitate healing from within by giving them tools to cultivate more peace, love, and ease.

Sandy Luna Jackson
Hi my name is Sandy and dancing is not my thing, it’s my THANG!!  I’ve been teaching Zumba for almost 10 years and 3 years of Hip Hop Fitness.  After taking a year off,  I’m ready to get back into the groove and shake a tail feather with you all!!  My goals are not only to keep you safe and make you sweat,  but to MAKE YOU SMILE!!  I cannot claim to be a Sean T nor JLo,  but I can promise you a fun cardio dance fitness class.  I will be subbing when our other awesome instructors need a little break!!  Hope to see you all really soon!!  

Veronica Vanacore
Working in the medical field for the past 16 years, I’ve witnessed firsthand the need to educate people about the importance of fitness and exercise. This along with my love for people and passion for an active lifestyle led me to pursue a NETA certification and become a spin instructor in Oct. of 2018. Come give our class a try - it’s a great way to get involved and meet others in the community.
