Ralph Staley served as the City’s Finance Director from 1990-1999 and then again from 2016-2018. He was appointed Assistant City Manager in November of 2018.

Staley received his Bachelor of Arts degrees in Accounting and in Business Management in 1982 from North Carolina State University. He served as the Deputy Executive Director at the District of Columbia Housing Authority from 2011 until 2016 and was the Chief Financial Officer of the Housing Authority of the City of Charlotte (NC) from June 2001 until September 2011. From December 1999 until June 2001 he worked in the securities industry where he held the Series 7, 24, 28, 53 and 66 securities licenses.

Before coming to Statesville in 1990, Staley worked with the Town of Garner and as a Systems Accountant with the N. C. Department of State Treasurer State and Local Government Finance Division. He started his work career in public accounting in 1982 with the North Wilkesboro firm Benson, Blevins, Drum & Thomas, CPA's.

Staley is a member of the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, North Carolina Government Finance Officers Association, North Carolina Local Government Investment Association, National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials and the Government Finance Officers Association. He was also an elected Iredell/Statesville School Board Member from 1998 - 2002.
