We dodged this bullet - Make sure you're prepared for the next winter storm.

Be prepared for a power outage:

When a Power Outage Occurs:

  • If you are a Statesville Electric Utilities customer, report the outage to 704-878-3479 – Stay on the line and be sure to give your address and phone number, and indicate that you want to be notified when power is restored.
  • If you are a Statesville Water customer, your water will not be disrupted.
  • If your power goes out, make sure that all items in use at the time of the outage (i.e., TV, stove, computer) are switched off.
  • Do not call 911 to report a power outage.  Do call 911 if you see downed lines sparking.

Restoring Power:

  • City Electric crews will begin restoring power as soon as it is safe to do so.
  • The procedure for restoring power is to repair the lines that will get the most customers back up and to make sure the hospital has power.
  • Often, an ice storm causes lots of scattered outages. It takes longer to get everybody’s power back on because there are individual lines that are down that impact a smaller amount of people.
  • Other Public Power Electric Utilities, not expected to be impacted by the storm, are on standby to assist Statesville with repairs, if needed.
  • Please be patient and know that we are working hard to restore power.

Monitoring the Power Outage:

Regular updates will be posted on the City’s website, Facebook page and Twitter, and provided to local media

City Services:

  • Garbage Pick-up: Residents with Thursday garbage pick-up should put their cart on the curb Wednesday night. Sanitation will attempt to run the Thursday route. If they do not complete the route, they will finish it on Friday, along with Friday’s route and work on Saturday if necessary.
  • Recycling: Recycling will be picked up in the same manner as garbage (This is a Blue Week)
  • Yardwaste & Leaf Collection: These services are cancelled Thursday.
  • City Offices: Check the city website, Facebook and Twitter for updates on city government closings. Check the SFAC Facebook Page for changes in operations.
