National Infertility Awareness Week
April 20-26, 2025
WHEREAS, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 1 in 7 women experience difficulty becoming pregnant or carrying a pregnancy to term; and
WHEREAS, the World Health Organization and the American Medical Association recognize infertility as a disease; and
WHEREAS, infertility affects both women and men equally and does not discriminate based on race, religion, sexual orientation, marital status or socioeconomic status; and
WHEREAS, some individuals become infertile due to medical treatments for other conditions, including cancer therapies such chemotherapy and radiation; and
WHEREAS, family building options include medical treatments such as in vitro fertilization and third-party reproduction, as well as adoption; and
WHEREAS, increasing public awareness of infertility and the challenges faced by those pursuing family building options is an important step toward breaking down barriers and providing support; and
WHEREAS, the City of Statesville recognizes the importance of supporting individuals and families impacted by infertility and encourages open conversations, education, and compassion in our community;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Constantine H. Kutteh, Mayor of the City of Statesville, do hereby proclaim April 20-26, 2025 National Infertility Awareness Week in the City of Statesville and encourage all residents to support those impacted by infertility and the family building journey.
