The City of Statesville operates under the council-manager form of government. The City Council acts as the legislative body in establishing policy and law and the City Manager handles the day-to-day management of the City organization.

The Planning and Zoning Department for the City of Statesville is responsible for current planning and long-range planning efforts.Current planning involves projects related to zoning, development review, architectural and appearance review, as well as permitting and other activities. Long-range planning involves the creation and enforcement of plans for the entire City as well as special areas related to future growth and development. Through planning we seek to enhance the quality of life of our residents.

The City of Statesville Public Utilities Department includes Permit, Utility Services, and Water Resources.

The City of Statesville Public Works Department includes Engineering, Sanitation, Stormwater, Streets, Fleet Maintenance, and Water + Sewer Maintenance.

The Engineering Division collaborates with the Planning Department, Fire Marshal’s Office, Public Utilities Department, Electric Utilities Department, and Stormwater Division to review and regulate proposed developments within the City.

The City of Statesville Stormwater Management Division is responsible for the City’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Permit and maintenance of the City’s stormwater drainage system.
