Traffic Collision Involving School Bus on E. Broad Street

On November 7, 2023, at approximately 3:45pm, the Statesville Police Department responded to a traffic collision in the vicinity of E. Broad Street and Phillips Lane. The incident involved a school bus operated by the Iredell Statesville School District and a Ford F-350 towing a large trailer.

The SPD Traffic Division initiated an investigation, and the preliminary findings indicated that the school bus was traveling west on E. Broad Street, with a second vehicle following behind. The school bus began to slow down in preparation for making a stop when the Ford F-350 collided with the rear of the bus.

The driver of the Ford F-350 reported that a brake failure occurred, preventing the vehicle from stopping in time to avoid the collision with the school bus.

As a result of the collision, one student on the school bus sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
