The solution to housing discrimination starts with you. If you have been trying to buy or rent a house or apartment and you believe your rights have been violated, contact HUD or your local fair housing center. The Fair Housing Act prohibits housing discrimination because of race, color, sex, religion, national origin, familial status or disability.

The City has officially adopted a Fair Housing Resolution along with a streamlined Complaint Procedure. Under this initiative, the City Manager has been designated as the official point of contact for receiving complaints related to housing discrimination.
Here's how it works: Upon receipt of a complaint, the City Manager will promptly refer it to the North Carolina Human Relations Commission. This referral is part of a formal agreement aimed at ensuring swift investigation, conciliation, and resolution of complaints within ten (10) calendar days.
Furthermore, the City Manager is committed to transparency and accountability. Within the same timeframe of ten (10) calendar days from receiving a complaint, a written response detailing the action being taken will be provided to the individual who filed the complaint.
This proactive approach underscores our dedication to fostering an inclusive and equitable community where everyone has access to fair housing opportunities.
