The City of Statesville is proud to announce that it has been granted $410,000 in funding from the FY24 appropriations legislation, following a request made by Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC). This allocation, which received overwhelming support with a Senate vote of 77-22 on March 8th and was signed into law by President Biden, marks a significant investment in the enhancement of law enforcement capabilities within the city.

Chief of Police David Onley expressed his appreciation, stating, "With the $410,000 directed to the City of Statesville by Senator Tillis, the police department will procure 90 body-worn camera systems and 55 in-car camera systems. These new systems will help ensure officer safety and accountability resulting in stronger community relations. We thank the Senator for his help in making this happen for our police department.”

Mayor Costi Kutteh echoed Chief Onley's sentiments, saying, “We appreciate Senator Tillis’ hard work on behalf of the citizens of Statesville. These systems will help maintain a high level of professionalism and integrity in our police department.”

Senator Tillis emphasized the significance of technology in law enforcement, stating, “Body-worn and vehicle-mounted cameras help police departments build a deeper trust with the communities they serve while increasing officer safety. Funding for law enforcement is more important than ever, and I am pleased to support Statesville in its mission to ensure the safety of its residents and police officers.”

Chief Onley further elaborated on the benefits, stating, “Camera systems, such as body worn and in car camera systems enhance officer safety and performance, and can improve training, and raise professional standards. This is great news for the city and the police department.”

The City of Statesville looks forward to the implementation of these advanced camera systems, which will undoubtedly contribute to the continued safety, accountability, and professionalism of its law enforcement personnel.
