April 7, 2025
Emergency Response & Public Safety
Statesville’s Fire Department continues to lend support to wildfire response efforts in Polk County. Two rotating crews have been deployed to assist in safeguarding homes and infrastructure in collaboration with other regional teams.
Major Construction Projects
Municipal Operations Center

Public Power Building & Garage: Completion delayed to late April or early May due to ongoing change orders with the architect and contractor.

Warehouse: Estimated completion set for June 2025.
Police Department Expansion

Construction expected to start mid-April to early May.

Parking lot closure is anticipated within a month.

Preparation work includes relocating utility poles and installing underground vaults.
Airport Terminal Building

Exterior wall framing is in progress.

Interior framing to begin soon.
-
Project completion projected for late 2025.
Downtown Revitalization: The Flats
- Pending the decision on wall demolition, staff is prepared to move quickly on removal and replacement. Streetscaping plans discussed during the Winter Retreat will follow.
Public Works & Infrastructure

Current Projects: Water and Meeting Street upgrades are underway. Street resurfacing is expected to start this spring. Sidewalk improvements on Alexander and Stockton are going out to bid shortly.

Caldwell Street: Closed due to a rusted stormwater pipe and developing sinkhole. Repair work is ongoing.

Tradd & E. Front Streets: A 20-foot section of failing sewer main has caused another sinkhole. Bidding is in process, with a 60-day completion goal once work begins.
Public Utilities

South Yadkin Pump Station: Construction is 25% complete.

Water Spline: Construction begins in May.
