Keeping Statesville Beautiful: Join the NC Spring Litter Sweep Cleanup!

Last Updated 4/18/2024Posted in Latest City News, Homepage

Spring is in the air in Statesville, and with it comes a renewed commitment to the beauty and health of our community. This April, Statesville is proud to participate in the North Carolina Spring Litter Sweep, an important statewide initiative led by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). This biannual event, traditionally scheduled for the last two weeks of April and September, is not just a cleanup—it's a community-wide movement towards a cleaner, greener North Carolina.

Why Participate in the NC Litter Sweep?

Litter is more than just unsightly; it poses a significant threat to our wildlife, damages our natural landscapes, and can even lead to increased pollution in our waterways. Participating in the Litter Sweep is our chance to tackle these issues head-on. It’s an opportunity for residents of Statesville and beyond to take pride in their environment and contribute actively to its upkeep.

Saturday, April, 13, 2024, three dedicated groups in Statesville demonstrated their commitment to our city:

City of Statesville & City Council – Our local leaders not only govern but also set a powerful example by directly engaging in community service.

Table of Reconciliation – This group’s efforts remind us that taking care of our city is a shared responsibility that unites us all.

Crosby Scholars of Iredell County – Young minds and hands getting involved show the power of educating our youth about the importance of environmental stewardship.

We extend our deepest gratitude to these groups for their hard work and dedication. Their efforts help not only to beautify our roads but also to foster a sense of community and shared responsibility.

How You Can Help

Joining the NC Litter Sweep is easy, and every pair of hands makes a difference. Whether you’re an individual, a family, a local organization, or a business, your participation is crucial. Here's how you can get involved:

  • Sign Up: Visit the NCDOT website to find out how you can participate in the cleanup days.
  • Spread the Word: Encourage friends and family to join in. The more volunteers, the greater the impact.
  • Educate: Share the importance of keeping our community clean not just during the Litter Sweep, but all year round.
