SFD to Hold Live Burn Exercise

Fire Department Training on Wayside Road – Statesville, NC

May 23, 2024 – Statesville, NC – The Statesville Fire Department will be conducting a live burn training exercise at 168 Wayside Road on Friday, May 31, 2024, from 8:30am to 5:00pm. The structure located at 168 Wayside Road has been donated to the city for this training by the property owners. Residents in the area will see fire department personnel around the structure starting Friday, May 24, 2024, through the remainder of the following week.

This training is essential for providing valuable continuing education for our firefighters and is crucial for the Fire Department's mission to deliver safe and efficient service to the community.

Residents and visitors can expect heavy smoke in parts of the area. There may be some traffic congestion due to partially blocked streets at times, as well as elevated noise levels from the fire equipment on scene. Bright lights from the apparatus and other vehicles will also be present. While this temporary inconvenience is necessary to achieve this level of fire training, every effort will be made to minimize disruptions. Onlookers are encouraged to keep moving when passing the location to reduce unnecessary inconveniences.

Motorists and residents should be aware of a road closure to accommodate the activity. Wayside Road will be closed from just past 152 Wayside Road to 180 Wayside Road from approximately 8:00am to 3:00pm.

For further information, please contact Deputy Chief Kyle Bell with Statesville Fire Department at 704-682-6503 or [email protected].
