Statesville, North Carolina | City Council Meeting | August 19, 2024

Tonight, we come together to recognize and honor a true hero in our community, Corporal Casey Hoover. As many of you know, on April 29, 2024, Corporal Hoover was involved in a tragic incident while serving with the U.S. Marshals Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force in Charlotte. This incident, which took the lives of four brave officers and left Corporal Hoover and three others injured, was a reminder of the dangers faced by those who protect us.

Corporal Hoover graduated from Basic Law Enforcement Training at Catawba Valley Community College in 2012 and joined the Statesville Police Department in 2016.  He has been serving as a Task Force Officer with the United States Marshal Service since October 2021.

Corporal Hoover sustained two gunshot wounds during the incident in April. One bullet struck his left arm, traveling through and exiting from the other side. The second bullet entered his chest, traveling behind his heart and lungs before lodging in his diaphragm. Thanks to the skilled surgeons who were able to remove the bullet, Corporal Hoover was hospitalized for four days and has made a full recovery.

Tonight, as we recognize Corporal Hoover's return, we also acknowledge the tremendous support he has received from his colleagues at the Statesville Police Department, the United States Marshal Service, and our entire community. His strength and resilience through this difficult time have been truly inspiring.

Joining us this evening are Corporal Hoover’s wife, Emily, and their daughter, Ellie. Corporal Hoover would like to express his heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported him and his family throughout this challenging period.

Please join me in extending our appreciation to Corporal Casey Hoover for his commitment to service and his remarkable recovery. We are proud to have him back with us and grateful for his continued dedication to keeping our community safe.
