SFD Anhydrous Ammonia Leak Training

The Statesville Fire Department takes its commitment to safety seriously, and that includes being prepared for any emergency situation. One such situation is an Anhydrous Ammonia leak. Anhydrous Ammonia is a hazardous chemical that, if not managed properly, can pose significant risks to both the environment and human health. Here we will explore the training efforts by the Statesville Fire Department to ensure that our first responders are equipped to handle Anhydrous Ammonia leaks effectively and safely.

What is Anhydrous Ammonia?

Anhydrous ammonia is a pungent, colorless gas often used as a fertilizer due to its high nitrogen content. While it's essential in agriculture, it can be hazardous if not handled properly. Exposure to anhydrous ammonia can cause severe respiratory and skin issues, and it can even be fatal if not managed promptly.

Training Overview

Anhydrous ammonia leak training is a crucial component of our preparedness efforts. Here's what you need to know:

  • Decontamination: After managing the leak, proper decontamination

We collaborate closely with local industries that use anhydrous ammonia to ensure a coordinated response to potential incidents. This partnership involves developing response plans, conducting training exercises, and sharing knowledge and best practices to enhance safety.
